Course Overview

B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is a 3–4 year undergraduate paramedical degree program that trains students to perform laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Medical laboratory technologists play a crucial role in healthcare because nearly 70–80% of medical diagnoses depend on laboratory reports.

This course focuses on:

Collection and analysis of biological samples (blood, urine, tissues, etc.)

Operating laboratory equipment

Performing diagnostic tests

Preparing and interpreting lab reports

Maintaining laboratory safety standards

Duration

3 years (6 semesters)

Some universities offer 3 years + 6 months internship

A few institutions provide a 4-year program including internship

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for B.Sc MLT:

Must have completed 10+2 (12th grade)

Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB)

Minimum marks: Usually 45%–50% (varies by college)

Minimum age: 17 years

Admission process:

Merit-based (based on 12th marks), or

Entrance exams (depending on university)
